Cranberry Christmas Mule

I’m not the biggest cocktail drinker, but this Cranberry Christmas Mule is definitely helping to convert me! When it comes to an evening drink I’ll usually opt for a beer or a red wine. However, recently I’ve been trying to expand my horizons a little. Partly to make me seem less boring at a good old Dubai Friday brunch, and partly because I have a cupboard full of spirits that I never drink. I like to buy them with good intentions and then they get stashed away never to see the light of day unless a friend comes round and requests something specific.

Since I’ve been trying to get more creative with my drinks, I’ve found that my favourite cocktails to date seem to be a Moscow Mule or a classic Mojito. A Mojito is, however, a little too much faff for me to be bothered to make. So therefore the Moscow Mule has become my weekend cocktail of choice. I also bought some beautiful mule copper mugs a few months ago. So beautiful they would be rude not to use.

Since it’s nearly Christmas, I got to thinking about how I could give this classic drink a festive makeover – enter the Cranberry Christmas Mule. It’s not a huge overhaul, it’s basically the introduction of cranberries as both an addition to the actual drink and as a garnish. It’s super yum though – a perfect Christmas day cocktail.

In the interests of my readers, I did have to put myself through the pain of testing different measurements, so you can get the perfect mix first time. It’s a hard life… I’d love to hear your thoughts on this drink 🙂

A festive take on the classic Moscow Mule cocktail – introducing fresh cranberries and juice, this Cranberry Christmas Mule is the perfect cocktail this holiday season!

Ingredients

  • Handful ice cubes, or even better, crushed ice

  • 50ml vodka, grey goose (or the best you have)

  • 150ml strong ginger beer, low calorie

  • 50ml cranberry juice

  • 1/2 lime

  • few sprigs of mint

  • fresh cranberries, for garnish

Directions

  • Add the ice to a Moscow Mule mug or glass. Add all ingredients, apart from the fresh cranberries, and mix together well.
  • Garnish with the remainder of the lime after squeezing and a few fresh cranberries.

Notes

  • I used low calorie ginger beer. If you use traditional then you’ll need to adjust the calorie calculation…
