Frozen Chocolate Banana lollies

Guilt free lollies! Well, kind of. I mean, it’s better than ice cream, but the chocolate sauce and whatever toppings you choose may add back some of the guilt that the banana took away. These frozen chocolate banana lollies are an amazing snack or dessert nonetheless.

Living in a hot country the odd ice cream or ice lolly when it gets really hot is essential. I was really just thinking about low cal dessert options for the new year when I landed on the idea of banana lollies. I’d also recently made this imitation Ice Magic Sauce so the two kind of came together into these frozen banana lollies.

It’s funny how when I make something, half the time during the process I’ll come up with an ‘ah ha’ moment. And for this I got to thinking about some other, fully healthy, options I could make. Hopefully they will work out and I’ll have something to share with you soon!

I appreciate it may be winter with you, wherever in the world you are. But if you are like me, and don’t really mind eating cold desserts in winter, then why not. Otherwise bookmark this for summer!

How to freeze banana lollies

These lollies will keep in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Once you’ve made them and the chocolate is fully frozen then cover them to prevent freezer burn. You can use freezer bags or some clingfilm. Of course, if you are going to eat them straight away then that’s not necessary (and I guarantee these won’t be in your freezer for long!)

I served these with some chopped walnuts. You could definitely get creative and use other toppings like hundreds and thousands, white chocolate chips, caramel… I’m sure you can probably think of even more!

The serving information below is for 2 lollies. I’d definitely multiply that up a bit if I was you and make a few. The calorie count includes chopped walnuts. Hopefully I’ll be back soon with some actually healthy dessert recipes for you all!

Frozen Chocolate Banana Ice Lollies. An amazing and slightly more healthy treat than traditional ice cream. Creamy frozen banana encased in a crispy chocolate shell and coated with chopped walnuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium banana (around 100g peeled weight), cut in half

  • 30g cadbury dairy milk – or other variety of milk chocolate

  • 1 tsp coconut oil

  • Toppings
  • chopped walnuts or other toppings (see note 3)

Directions

  • Peel and halve the bananas. Insert a lolly stick into each half.
  • Freeze the bananas for 3 hours, or overnight.
  • Make up the chocolate sauce. Place a heatproof bowl over a small pan of boiling water and melt and then add the coconut milk and combine. Alternatively you can melt the chocolate in the microwave in 20 second bursts.
  • Holding the lollies over a bowl, use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate sauce over the top (see note 1). Over a different bowl immediately sprinkle the topping over while turning. Word of warning – the sauce will harden very quickly.
  • Return to the freezer for at least 2 hours and enjoy! See note 2.

Notes

  • Feel free to make the chocolate sauce in advance. Store it covered in a cupboard rather than the fridge. You will probably need to microwave for a few seconds before pouring to loosen up the texture.
  • Once you’ve made them and the chocolate is fully frozen then cover them to prevent freezer burn. You can use freezer bags or some clingfilm.
