Peach iced tea being poured into a glass from a bottle

Peach Iced Tea

  • Author: caroline
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 1x

Description

This homemade peach iced tea is the perfect refreshing drink for a hot day. Fruity and naturally sweetened with honey, make a batch of it on a summer’s day.

The default recipe makes one glass of tea.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 peach, destoned and roughly chopped
  • 1 black tea bag (see note 1)
  • 1 tsp honey (see note 2,3)

Instructions

  1. Start by brewing a tea bag in boiling water in your favourite mug. Leave to steep for 3-5 minutes depending on how strong you like it. Leave a little room at the top of the mug to add the peach syrup.
  2. Add the peach, honey and a tbsp of water to a blender or food processor. Blitz until you have an even consistency.
  3. Remove the teabag from the mug and add the peach syrup. It will look bitty and a little unappetising – don’t worry about that as we’ll deal with it later!
  4. Leave the tea to cool at room temperature (see note 4). This should take around 30-40 minutes. See note 2.
  5. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh strainer and into a jug (see note 5). Add ice and drink straight away or place in the fridge for up to 1 day. (see note 6)

Notes

  1. You can switch things up a little by using earl grey tea bags. Or if you’re a fan of seriously strong tea then seek out some extra strength bags
  2. You can omit the honey if you want a less sweet drink.
  3. You can substitute the honey with simple syrup (1 part sugar dissolved in 1 part water – add the syrup to the tea until you have the sweetness you want). You can also make this with powdered sweetener if you want to reduce the number of calories.
  4. Don’t be tempted to put the hot mugs straight into the fridge as this can raise the temperature of the fridge and other items in the fridge to an unsafe level.
  5. Make sure to use a really fine mesh strainer to get a really smooth texture.
  6. It is not advised to keep iced tea for more than 8 hours by the CDC (US) because of bacteria that can be found on leaves. However, prepared properly you should be able to keep this for a day without any issues.
