Mmmmmmm…. Clotted cream. That creamy, yet not too sweet, almost buttery cream that I’ve never seen anywhere but the British Isles… Was I going to be able to find this in Dubai? I wasn’t so sure…

I had this urge that I absolutely had to make some English classic scones. And everyone who knows how to do a real cream tea, knows that you can’t have scones without clotted cream…

So I started my search – and for this one I wasn’t sure I would be successful. But I’m happy to tell you that I found clotted cream fairly easily – since I started my search at one of the top UK supermarket chains you can find over here.

I’m happy to tell you that Waitrose stocks clotted cream. I found mine at the Dubai Marina Mall Store. Cornish clotted cream at that (sorry to all you Devonshire clotted cream fans – personally I’ve not eaten enough of either to really be able to tell the difference).

Price wise, this wasn’t such a great find. In the UK this retails at £2.20. Here is was 28 AED – which is just short of £6!

Now, next time I’m making scones I will definitely look at making my own. I did a little research and apparently it’s not so difficult – but I can’t vouch for that. I’d love to hear if you have tried it and how it turned out. All the recipes I could find were also from US sites (probably because they can’t buy it easily there either). So all call for heavy cream – which I expect is the same as UK ‘double’ cream. It also needs to be unpasteurized. Now, that is a challenge to find here! (Anyone else in the UAE notice how all cream seems to be pasturised, UHT stuff?!)

Anyway, so now you have it – where to buy clotted cream in Dubai… Once you’ve bought it I guess you need a great scone recipe to go with it…
